Menopause requires individualized attention

blog post

Menopause symptoms affect more than 75% of women, with more than 25% experiencing severe symptoms. The British Menopause Society (BMS), the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG) and the Society of Endocrinology (SfE) have released a joint statement with recommendations to improve menopause care and treatment.

“All women experience menopause in different ways and that’s why it’s important that they receive personalized attention,” said the authors of the recommendations published in Post-Reproductive Health.

It requires “ an individualized approach, considering the risks and benefits of therapies as well as lifestyle choices so that women can make informed decisions about their treatment and care .”

Symptoms of menopause can include hot flashes and night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings and memory problems.

Many of these symptoms can last for years and have a detrimental impact on a woman’s quality of life and well-being, in addition to posing more serious risks to her bone and cardiovascular health.

The joint statement from the British Menopause Society, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Endocrine Society says that each woman’s individual needs are taken into account, rather than taking a “one size fits all” approach and that the risks and benefits of hormone therapies in the context of age, cardiovascular health and body weight, as well as lifestyle choices so that women can make informed decisions about their treatment and care.

It is important, the statement said, that women are aware of the help and support available to them and feel able to consult their doctor for reliable advice.

Menopause  This is the physiological stage in women during which the ovaries stop producing eggs and menstruation ends. We speak of menopause when a year has passed since the last menstrual period and there has been no menstrual bleeding.

It usually occurs on average at age 50, but depending on the age at which it occurs, it can be:

  • Early menopause (primary ovarian failure), if older than 40 years.
  • Early menopause, if she is between 40 and 45 years old.
  • Late menopause, if after age 55.

During menopause, the decline in estrogen production causes many women to experience symptoms such as insomnia, hot flashes, low mood, weight gain, and changes in sex life, in addition to leading, in the medium term, to an increased risk of fractures, strokes and cardiovascular conditions.

With timely advice and care during menopause and especially before, in the transition phase, we can lead a quality life: we will avoid or minimize osteoporosis, reduce hot flashes and relieve vaginal dryness to have a comfortable sex life. We can also provide pile treatment in Chandigarh.
