Hysteroscopy is a procedure wherein a scope is inserted in the uterus and the interior of the uterus is examined under direct vision on a TV screen. This procedure helps us to examine the inside of the uterus for any abnormalities . A careful hysteroscopy starts with a vaginoscopy (the examination vagina ) and cervical examination. Then with the help of a distension medium the cervical canal is entered and examined. The uterus is then entered and a note is made of the length of the uterus, the fallopian tube openings, the walls of the uterus and the lining of the uterus . Since the hysteroscope is attached to a camera all this can be examined under magnification on a TV monitor. Any abnormality of the vagina, cervix, uterus are then noted and tackled.
Ans: A hysteroscope is an instrument which enables us to take a look inside the cervical canal and the uterus. So a hysteroscope is used to see for problems inside the uterus like irregular/ thick lining of the uterus, polyp, septum, fibroids & suspected cancer. The beauty of the scope is that one can exactly determine where the problem is inside the uterus and if a biopsy is required then it can be taken from that area itself. So the doctor is actually able to see the diseases area.
