What are piles?
Piles or Hemorrhoids are the lumps and inflamed veins in the lowest region inside or around the rectum and anus, that causes rectal bleeding and pain at the time putting strain during bowel movements. It is prevalent, causing symptoms like itching, discomfort, and bleeding while passing stool. However, in some cases, they can be painful and may require medical attention. Treatment typically involves oral medications, over-the-counter remedies, and dietary supplements or in more severe cases, medical procedures such as surgeries or laser treatment. Piles can be internal (in the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus).
- Internalpiless: As the name suggests internal hemorrhoids, lie inside the rectum (the final portion of the large intestine). They aren’t painful, but one can experience a sense of discomfort or irritation while passing the stool; which causes painless bleeding during the bowel movements.
- Externalpiless: Piles or haemorrhoids are the swollen veins in the anus or lower rectum. They develop under the skin or around the anus therefore known as external haemorrhoids. External haemorrhoids can be painful at the time of bowling movement, staring, or lifting.
What causes piles?
First of all, anyone can get less. This affects people of all ages and sexes (male and female). piles reasons could be:
- Overweight/Obesity: Pilots are more common in the overweight population for several reasons including inadequate fibre intake, decreased level of physical activity, and prolonged sitting.
- Pregnancy: Pregnancy and vaginal delivery predispose women to develop hemorrhoids because of hormonal changes and increased intra-abdominal pressure. It has been estimated that 25 to 35 per cent of pregnant women are suffering from this condition.
- Low-fiber diet: Eating more high-fiber, low-fat, whole foods can often reduce or prevent the symptoms of hemorrhoids. That is because fibre seems to: increase stool weight, reduce the time feces, and increase water retention in the colon, resulting in softer stools that pass more easily.
- Regular weight lifting: Weight lifting itself isn’t the cause of hemorrhoids. Pilots can occur due to poor or improper technique of weight lifting.
- Spending a lot of time sitting on the toilet: Prolonged stay on the commode seat is a risk factor for hemorrhoid or pile development. The shape of the toilet seat causes extra pressure on the rectum and anus. It can cause swelling of the veins if you sit there for a long time.
- Fecal incontinence and diarrhea: The swollen veins can keep the anus from closing completely, letting stool leak out, so the loose stools of diarrhea can cause or worsen fecal incontinence.

Anal skin tags are a condition of redundancy of skin adjacent to the anal canal. This condition is often perplexed as hemorrhoids including Anal fissure, which is a tear in the lining of the anal canal that presents with pain.
Internal and external pain can be diagnosed through various types. These are:
Visual Inspection: To examine the Internal hemorrhoids your healthcare provider might look at the lower part of your rectum with a tool named anoscope, a proctoscope, or a sigmoidoscope. Your health care provider might want to look at your entire colon using a colonoscopy if you are suspected of:
- Having another digestive system disease.
- For colorectal cancer.
- If you are middle-aged and haven’t had a recent colonoscopy.
Hemorrhoids can be treated in various ways. This includes:
- Rubber band ligation: To do this procedure, a doctor inserts a viewing scope (anoscope) into the anus. The hemorrhoid is seized with a small tool firmly. Placing a rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid through the device. To make it shrinks and dies, falls off. It’s a non-surgical painless procedure.
- Sclerotherapy: In this method, the injection of a chemical solution is injected into the affected area around the hemorrhoid. It is often used to make the hemorrhoid gradually shrink or shrivel up over time.
- Infrared Coagulation: Infrared Coagulation has emerged as a revolutionary treatment for hemorrhoids. A doctor uses infrared light to create an intense beam of infrared light. Heat created by the infrared light causes scar tissue, which cuts off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid. As a result, the hemorrhoid dies.
- Laser treatment: Laser treatment is less invasive and does not cause much pain or discomfort. The treatment follows a fine laser beam to remove the tissue. The surrounding healthy tissues remain unaffected.
- Dietary fibre: Doctors recommended to eat more foods that are rich in fibre. Eating dietary food makes stools softer and easier to pass. It is the best home remedy to prevent hemorrhoids. Drinking more water and other liquids will work better together with dietary fibre.
- Sitz bath: Sitz baths prepared with warm water (adequate temperature) are a great way to treat hemorrhoids at home. These baths usually soothe the affected area to relieve the pain and discomfort.
- Ice packs: Doctors recommend applying ice to your hemorrhoids several times daily. Ice is known to reduce blood flow to the swollen blood vessels of your hemorrhoids and provides fast relief.
- Topical medication: Topical medications are generally prescribed by your healthcare provider. This includes ointment, steroid cream, stool softener, or numbing medicines.
